This is my a list of all things I hope I have given to my children over the years:
1. A sense of self and a sense of purpose
2. The ability to show human compassion not because it is the right' thing to do' but because they have the ability to see one day that could be them.
3. Respect of Elders not because they are old but because they are wise.
5. The ability to love themselves and know no matter what they are always okay just as they are.
6. The ability to reach for their dreams and the wisdom to seek the knowledge they need to create them.
7. Faith in humanity in themselves in the Universe
8. The courage to stand up and be heard and the humility to shut up and hear others.
9. The grace to admit when they get it wrong and the wisdom to see it as a life lesson and to grow from it.
10. Love the knowledge they are loved no matter which road they walk down no matter what direction they take but also in being loved that they know they are lovable.
In return my children have given me:
1. A lifetime of smiles hugs and joy.
2. I reminder of my own humanity
3. The ability to stay in the moment
4. The ability to see its the little things in life which make the big things worthwhile.
5. The knowledge I have brought 2 souls into the world who will make a difference.
6. They have taught me laughter will make even the biggest problem smaller
7. That we all need someone to care
8. They have taught me to love and that I am lovable
9. They have taught me about unconditional love and giving just because it feels good.
10. And lastly they have taught me how to let go and let God because sometimes it really is all out of our hands.

Top-level comments on this article: (3 total)A wonderful article Robin. Your children are lucky to have you as a parent. I whole-heartedly agree with #10. It took me a long time to accept the fact that things were not 'in my control'. It's a wonderful feeling when you come to the realization that everything is in His hands, very reassuring.
You are blessed, Robin, to have children who have given you "A lifetime of smiles hugs and joy." ~mogama~
