I think we begin every new year the wrong way, making lists of things which will probably never eventuate. People try and put the old year behind them, they tuck it under the new one as one would push an old pair of socks under the bed never to be seen again. The irony is the year just gone is the one which holds the key to the year yet to come. Everyone should look back in reflection what didn't I do, what could I could have done better, what lessons came to me and what did I learn from them.
If you want to build a better relationship with your partner you don't have to plan elaborate trips abroad to impress them. You need to start with baby steps, start listening instead of talking, start saying I love you I support you I think you are doing great, start working on your own stuff become a better person and you will become a better partner. If you want to lose weight don't give up food and start exercising 24 hrs a day, work through the baby steps, get a medical find out if you have health issues which may be effecting your weight, go see a Doctor, do a checklist of what you eat and see if you can change the amounts the types of food you eat, is you diet full of fast food and sugar? You don't need to hire a personal trainer find what places make you peaceful and happy, if its a park aim to go hiking in it once a month, if its a shopping mall aim to walk around it without stopping for a hour, you are limited only by your own mindset.
We all make the mistake of placing our lives in boxes and limiting ourselves to what fits in with the expectations of others and society. This year forget about everyone else they don't have to live your life you do! As long as your words and actions are not adversing impacting others there is no law which says you cannot do things in a way which fits in with who you are and what you want in life.
If you want to sit in the park and eat ice cream do it, if you want to sit down and play lego with your child do it, if you want to surprise your partner by cleaning up the house for them do it, if you want to tell a co-worker their help if appreciated do it.
We worry far to much about what others will think, the bottomline is when we take our last breathe its whether we had a happy life which will count not whether anyone approved of it!
